The No. 11 NMJC women's basketball team downed Midland College 68-49 on Thursday night.
The Thunderbirds started the game on fire jumping out to an early 8-0 lead over the Chaps. NMJC coasted through the first two quarters, ending the first half with a 39-25 lead.
The second half did not come much easier for the Chaps. NMJC picked up right where they left off, outscoring the Chaps offense 14-7 in the third quarter. The T-Birds would go on to top the Chaps 68-49 in a wire-to wire victory.
Guard Delma Zita led the way for the T-Birds with 18 points and five assists. Forward Bianca Juzzo chipped in 10 points and four rebounds in the win.
Guard Madina Camara finished the night with 16 points on 2-of-2 shooting from three-point land. Forward Mariama Sow added nine rebounds for NMJC.
The T-Birds have won five straight games. Thursday's game marks the eighth time the Thunderbirds have held their opponent under 50 points this season. NMJC is 8-0 in such games.
The T-Birds shot 29-of-71 (40.8%) from the field, 4-for-15 (26.7%) from the three-point line, and forced 23 turnovers in the win over Midland.
The Thunderbirds fly to 13-2 on the year and 2-0 in conference. NMJC will play Western Texas College Monday, Jan. 16 at 5:45 p.m. CDT in Snyder, Texas.
