No. 3 Lady T-Birds set new 4x400 school record at UNM
NMJC also adds two new national qualifying marks
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The third-ranked New Mexico Junior College women's track and field team set a school record in the 4x400, added two new national qualifying marks and improved nine other national qualifying marks at the UNM Collegiate Classic this weekend.
The 4x400 team of Tiffany Garcia, Quadaisha Newkirk, Jahneya Mitchell and Cheyenne Hoerr finished with a time of 3 minutes, 46.86 seconds, to set a new NMJC record.
Micayla Collins qualified for nationals in the long jump with a mark of 18 feet, 1 1/4 inches while Purity Murray qualified in the 3,000 with a time of 11:09.41.
NMJC athletes improving their national qualifying marks were: Mayah Edwards (60 - 7.74), Kayelle Clarke (200 - 25.27), Newkirk (400 - 56.68), Mitchell (600 - 1:35.86), Hoerr (600 - 1:35.92), Silvia Sosa (800 - 2:24.00), Markita Rush (60 hurdles - 9.04) and Collins (triple jump - 39-11 1/2).
NMJC travels back to Albuquerque on Friday for another event hosted by University of New Mexico.
