Midland Snaps NMJC’s 6-Match Winning Streak
The No. 19 NMJC volleyball team fell to conference foe Midland in four sets (27-25, 20-25, 13-25, 21-25) in their first conference home match of the season.
The Thunderbirds were riding a 6-match winning streak headed into Saturday's matchup. The T-Birds battled early in the match, fighting off set point down 23-24, ultimately winning the set 27-25.
Midland quickly knotted up the match at one set a piece with a 25-20 win. NMJC fell flat in the third set as Chaps setter Julia Kabala scored 10 straight points to open the set. The Thunderbirds never seemed to recover from the onslaught in the third set, falling in the fourth set.
The offense struggled Saturday afternoon mustering a season low .117 hitting percentage. Iva Popovic posted 12 kills and 10 digs. Gaby Arias added nine kills and 12 digs.
Lacie Schooley recorded 27 assists and 19 digs in the four-set loss. Luiza Arsufi and Milena Cernjanski chipped in 14 digs a piece as the Thunderbirds stumbled to 13-5 on the year.
NMJC's next matchup will be a road contest against Odessa College Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. CDT.
