Amarillo Defeats NMJC (VB) on the Road in 4
NMJC struggled on the road Wednesday, Oct. 15 losing to the Amarillo College Badgers in four sets.
The T-Birds have hit an October slump losing all five games this month.
NMJC was ahead late in the first set 20-19. Amarillo tied the match up at 23 apiece but the Badgers won two straight points to win the first set 25-23. NMJC dropped the second set 25-22. The Thunderbirds won the third set 25-18.
The fourth set saw NMJC leading 9-5 early, Amarillo went on to score 17 straight to make it 22-9 before a service error ended the run. Amarillo won the set 25-11 and the match 3-1.
Setter Noemi Marinho tallied a double-double with 16 assists and 11 digs. This was the Brazilian's seventh double-double of the year. Leticia Neves finished the day with 13 digs and five kills. Libero Lauren Shiplet added 15 digs. Middle Zaira Romero recorded seven kills.
Outside hitter Deniz Akgul posted double digits in kills with 11. Kawena Crowell registered a double-double with 13 assists and 10 digs. It was her fourth double-double of her career.
The Thunderbirds fell to 12-13 (3-6) on the year and will play Western Texas on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. MDT in Hobbs, NM.
