T-Birds fall to No. 5 Hill College
NMJC preps for return to WJCAC play
BROWNWOOD, Texas — The New Mexico Junior College men's basketball team lost to No. 5 Hill College 78-61 Monday at the Region V Shootout.
The Thunderbirds (11-5) trailed 37-28 at the break but its struggles from the field (finished shooting 30.7 percent from the field) along with its turnover (24) and rebounding (was outrebounded 51-28) woes kept them from getting back into the game.
Malique Trent led NMJC with 14 points, five steals and five assists while Desmond Medder had 12 points and Cullen Russo finished with eight points and a team-high six rebounds.
"What we need to do is come together as a team," NMJC coach James Miller said. "Talent is not the issue. We have that. We just have to get the players on the same page out there. If we can do that, we're going to be in good shape."
The T-Birds return to Western Junior College Athletic Conference play 7:45 p.m. Thursday as they host Western Texas College at Caster Activity Center.
