NMJC men's basketball opened the 2025-26 season with an impressive 90-52 win over Dallas College Brookhaven on Saturday, Nov. 1.
The T-Birds had a sizable lead in the first half leading 44-26 at the break. NMJC struggled from the 3-point line during the first 20 minutes shooting just 14.3% and 39% from the field.
NMJC improved offensively in the second half as they outscored Brookhaven by 20 points. They shot 53.1 percent in the second half from the field and 33.3% from the 3-point line. The T-Birds went on to win by 38 points in the season opener.
Guard Kemauri Millender led the way for NMJC scoring 18 points on 50% from the field. The sophomore also tallied five assists.
Center Ladji Coulibaly had a double-double in his collegiate debut finishing with 13 points, 14 boards, and three blocks. Guard Grigorije Avramovic registered seven points and four steals. Sophomore forward Delang Muon ended the night with eight points and four rebounds.
The T-Birds shot 33-for-73 (45.2%) from the field, 6-of-26 (23.1%) from the 3-point line, and 18-of-29 (62.1%) from the free throw line. NMJC forced 27 turnovers and held the Bears to 34% from the field.
The T-Birds improve to 1-0 and will face Fort Hays Tech Northwest College Monday, Nov. 3 at 12 p.m. MST in Hobbs, NM.
