NMJC (MBB) Starts the Season 2-0
The T-Birds defeated Fort Hays Tech 68-55 in front of a raucous crowd on Monday, Nov. 3.
NMJC welcomed students from Heizer Middle School during the game. The middle schoolers from Hobbs brought the energy after earning the opportunity to attend the mtahcup due to highest school attendance.
The Thunderbirds led at the break 32-25 over the Tigers. Fort Hays Tech cut into the lead throughout the second half and tied up the score 44-44 at the 10:21 mark. NMJC caught fire over the next seven minutes and went on a 20-6 run to make the score 64-50. NMJC maintained the lead, defeating Fort Hays Tech by 13 points.
NMJC had four starters in double figures against the Tigers.
Guard Kemauri Millender scored a team-high 13 points. Center Ladji Coulibaly finished with 10 points and grabbed eight boards.
RJ Nance ended the afternoon with 11 points and five boards. Grigorije Avramovic was the fourth T-Bird starter in double figures with 10 points.
The T-Birds shot 25-for-65 (38.5%) from the field, 3-of-20 (15%) from the 3-point line, and 15-of-26 (57.7%) from the free throw line. NMJC forced 22 turnovers and held the Tigers to 34% from the field.
The Thunderbirds improve to 2-0 and will face Phoenix College Friday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. MST in Hobbs, NM.
