2nd Half Rally Lifts T-Bird (MBB) to 6th Straight Win
NMJC men's basketball kept their 6-game win streak alive after rallying back from down 13 points in the second half to win 75-68 against Clarendon College.
The T-Birds led in the first half 21-12 at the 12:58 mark. Clarendon cut into the lead as the T-Birds stayed in front 28-23 with 2:55 to go in the half. The Bulldogs closed the half on a 11-4 run to grab the lead from NMJC and go up 34-32.
Clarendon's largest lead of the game was 13 points, 50-37, at the 11:31 mark in the second half.
NMJC came alive over the next 6:00 going on a 17-2 run to snatch a 54-52 lead with under 6:00 minutes remaining. NMJC extended their lead to 67-55 at the 2:59 mark in the game. The Bulldogs found their way to a one possession game at the 1:21 mark following a second-chance triple to make it 69-66.
T-Bird forward Delang Muon finished strong at the rim during the next possession to push the lead up to five, 71-66, with 56 seconds to go. Clarendon ran out of gas and never came within a possession the rest of the way, losing 75-68.
Forward Delang Muon scored a team-high 18 points, tallied eight rebounds, and blocked three shots. Kemauri Millender went 3-for-4 from beyond the arc to finish with 12 points. Kenny Fields led the T-Birds off the bench with 14 points.
Grigorije Avramovic ended the night with a career-high eight assists, and four steals. RJ Nance was the fourth T-Bird in double figures with 10 points.
Garrison Phelps finished with nine points in the seven-point win. The game Monday night featured 16 lead changes.
The T-Birds shot 25-for-57 (43.9%) from the field, 10-of-38 (26.3%) from the 3-point line, and 15-of-27 (55.6%) from the free throw line. NMJC forced 28 turnovers in the game.
NMJC is 16-2 when knocking down 10 or more 3-pointers.
The T-Birds (8-3) are third in the WJCAC standings, trailing South Plains (9-3) and Howard (9-2).
The No. 18 Thunderbirds improve to 21-4 (8-3) on the year and will face No. 8 South Plains College in Hobbs, NM Thursday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m. MST.
